About Cycle Colchester
The Cycle Colchester website is hosted by Colchester City Council and is a legacy of the Cycle Town Project that ran in Colchester between 2008 and 2011. It has since been redeveloped in 2024 using funding from DEFRA.
Whether you’re a beginner, looking to cycle more, a club rider, or just about getting from A to B, our objective is to encourage more people to cycle more often.

We aim to:
- Provide you with resources, advice and support for cycling in Colchester
- Put you in touch with local cycling groups and organisations who can help you cycle more, give you advice and support and offer you different ways to enjoy cycling
- Keep you informed of local cycling events and activities
- Keep you up to date with improvements and developments of the local cycling network
- Introduce you to local cyclists from all walks of life, who will share with you why they love to cycle!
This website was created using feedback from our community about what would encourage them to choose cycling for more journeys. If there is something that you feel is missing from this website, please get in touch
“The thing I love the most is that I can go where I want, when I want and don’t have to worry about finding a car parking space or paying for it. It gives me the freedom to just nip into town or down to the shops without thinking or planning.”
“The single biggest thing cycling has offered to me has been giving me my life back. Cycling has restored my health to such a point that a lot of the invasive surgery I was told I needed such as a stoma is no longer necessary… YAY!”
“I like the feeling that I’m doing some activity, and it gives me the head space to prepare for the day at work or to decompress a bit on the way home.”
We send out a monthly e-newsletter with what’s coming up for cycling in Colchester, so if you’ve got anything to include please get in touch, or sign up to the newsletter to receive it straight to your inbox.
