13, 14, 25 & 26 May – Free Bike Health Check with Colchester Cycle Champions. Why not cycle to Castle Park and visit the stand in Upper Castle Park near the new play area between 11am and 2pm?  As well as a free Bike Health Check, friendly local cycle champions will be on hand to answer any cycle related quesions you have. Please remember not to cycle in the actual park.

Congratulations to St Lawrence Primary School in Rowhedge who won the Spring EcoRace with the highest percentage of children in Key stage 1 cycling to school over three weeks. The EcoRace runs across Essex with 18 schools participating in the Key stage 1 category and 22 in the Key stage 2. Average levels of cycling across the participating schools was 8.7% in KS1 and 9.1% in KS2. The EcoRace is a free fun challenge for schools to take part in to encourage active travel to school. If your school isn’t already participating, the dates for the summer challenge are 8, 15 and 22nd June. Find out more about the EcoRace and encourage your school to join.

13 – 21 June National Bike Week

25 July – Essex Castle Bike Ride, a great day cycling a choice of three beautiful circular routes of 25, 50 and 75 miles, all starting at Colchester raising money for Age UK Essex.

29 August – Colchester’s first Vintage Bike Ride, a slow paced ride with stops at secrets beauty stops and venues with elevenses and afternoon tea. Find out more via their VintageBicycleRide facebook page

9 September – CoHoC London to Paris cycle ride If you are interested in combining an exhilarating 290 mile, 4 day bike ride with raising money for Colchester Hospital through its charity CoHoc –  then check out the London to Paris cycle ride.

7 – 11 October – St Helena’s Hospice – 3 -2-1 cycle challenge Another fundraising ride across 3 countries, with 2 pedals, for 1 hospice. Five days of cycling through 300 miles of English countryside, across the channel to the Dutch lowlands and on to the historic city of Brussels.
