Lion Walk and Culver Square bike parking
You can now park your bike right in the heart of the town shopping centres. You may have spotted the colourful and interesting new bike parking that has been in place in Culver Square for some months and more recently in Lion Walk. Both shopping centres were keen to introduce bike parking but wanted something that was a bit different.
The colourful Bike Clouds have been designed to provide multiple easily accessible locking points. They are also ecologically designed with the base being formed from a cut-out of its main body to minimise waste.
They have been installed with funding from ECC and as part of Culver Square and Lion Walk’s commitment to promote sustainable travel into the town centre. Look out for their future campaigns to encourage cycling and for Lion Walk’s infographic promoting sustainable travel into the town centre which can be found in WH Smith’s window in Red Lion Yard.
If you or someone you know suffers from respiratory or heart problems, just a reminder of the AirText service that will send you alerts when pollution levels are elevated in Colchester.
People with asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, heart disease and angina are more at risk from high levels of air pollution. There are simple steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of any impacts. These include taking your inhaler or angina spray with you, take extra doses if symptoms worsen, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity on polluted days. If you care for or are a parent of someone with these symptoms, advance warning of elevated pollution levels from airTEXT may help you look after them better.
This free of charge service offers alerts to your smart phone, home phone, or by text or email.
If you download the app you can also get a daily update on UV levels, pollen count and temperature as well as air pollution.
