Jane’s Walk (or Cycle)

As part of the Jane’s Walk weekend in Colchester, there’s a chance to ride the new Colchester Orbital route with a group. Meeting on Monday 6th May at 10:30am from High Woods Visitors Centre, Nick Oakley will lead a group round all 14 miles of the Oribital, taking about 2.5 hours. There’s some light off-road sections, so bring a bike that’s suitable.

Wivenhoe and Colchester Bike Kitchens

As well as their usual drop-in sessions, Colchester Bike Kitchen still have a few spots left on their Introduction to Essential Bike Maintenance course this Saturday morning. It’s aimed at total beginners and is open to anyone; you can find out more and book your space here.

Wivenhoe Bike Kitchen have changed their opening hours – you can now drop in for some help with your bike Sunday afternoons from 3-5pm and Monday evenings 7-9pm.

Re~Cycle Bikes to Africa

Re~Cycle have many fully refurbished bikes for sale that all come with a 60-day warranty! They are open from 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday - Friday as well as the last Saturday of every month from 9am - 1pm. They are a non-profit organisation, meaning 100% of the sales goes to running the charity. This month’s bike sale is Saturday the 27th April.

Re~Cycle will be closed over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend to give their volunteers a well deserved break!

Ride London – Surrey Sportive

There are still some spots available for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey sportive on 4th August through a range of local charities. All they ask is you commit to raising sponsorship money for your chosen cause. We’ve got links to local causes on our event page here.

Things that caught our eye

The Bike Show Podcast

Jack Thurston’s relaxing off-beat podcast tells stories of people and adventures to be had without needing to (necessarily) go fast – just up our street! From exploring WW1 battlefields in the Alps to riding around Preston with a local artist, Jack has a knack for inspiring you to get out on your bike.

Container Cycle Hub

Cycle Hoop have come up with a clever idea – the Container Cycle Hub. They take a single-use shipping container and fit it out with cycle racking, then simply drop it into place! It even comes with lockable doors to keep the bikes inside extra secure, solar powered lighting, and a bike pump and tool stand.
